Teej Festival is one of the most preferred festivals of India widely celebrated, but its true essence and charisma is found only in Jaipur. Celebrated in the month of 'Shravan' (July-August), according to the Hindu calendar, TTeej Festival, Rajasthan eej marks the arrival of monsoon, after the sweltering summers. Teej Festival marks the inauguration of the festive season in Rajasthan.

According to Hindu mythology, on Teej, Goddess Parvati united with Lord Shiva after years of penance. During this opportune festival, Goddess Parvati, the symbol of morality, rectitude, fidelity and fecundity is worshipped. Teej is a vital cultural festival for the womenfolk of Rajasthan as they pray for the well being of their husbands and for their marital bliss.

Activities:

Teej is also identified as the festival of swings and rains. Women sing songs and enjoy rope swings. Parents of married girls send gifts, sweets and clothes to their daughter's home. While girls engaged for marriage, receive 'Sindhara' from their "would be in-laws", which consists gifts and sweets.
