Ranthambore Fort

The Ranthambhore fort is believed to have been built in 944 A.D. by a Chauhan ruler. It is strategicalRanthambore Fortly located on the border of Rajasthan and erstwhile Malwa The Undulating topography of the surrounding forests was used as an outer defense to the advantage of the fort. It was one of the strongest forts of Northern India. The fort had many buildings inside of which only a few have survived the ravages of wars and time. Among the remaining ruins, the two pavilions, Badal Mahal and Hammirs court and parts of the royal palace give an idea of the old grandeur. For water supply there are two rain fed reservoirs in the fort. The fort also has an old temple devoted to lord Ganesh which attracts a lot of pilgrims and visitors.

Highlights : The fort is huge, with the circumference of its walls approximately 7 kms. The area inside is 4.5 sq. kms. It is open to the public from dawn to dusk. There is no road leading to the top of the hill to the fort - there are only stairs leading from the bottom of the hill. It is a 20-minute climb but it is worth the effort. The height of the hill is 700 feet.

The nearest airport is Jaipur (180 km away) which is well connected by air from Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jodhpur and Udaipur.Ranthambore is well connected by rail to Delhi, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Mumbai.Ranthambore is well connected by road to Agra (275 kms), Bharatpur (210 kms) and Jaipur (180 kms) and fits in very well into any North India itinerary.
