The Nagaur Fair is well known all over the state of Rajasthan and the special guests of honor at this fair are- Cattle! It is the second largest fair in Rajasthan and is popularly known as the ‘Cattle Fair' owing to the large scale trade of cattle which include cows, bullocks, oxen, camels and horses. Their owners adorn themselves in multihued turbans and pompous long moustaches. The most attractive aspect of the Nagaur Fair is the Mirchi Bazaar, which is a favorite hub to shop for local handicrafts, wooden items, leather accessories and ethnic jewelry. Several games, races, tug of wars and cockfights are organized for the entertainment of the visitors. This eight days fair held every year during the month of Jan-Feb, is popularly known as the Cattle fair and is the second largest in Rajasthan. Nagaur Town is the most picturesque of Rajput townships.

Activities

The cattle fair is the foremost characteristic of the Nagaur festival. The festival continues for eight days. A recent survey of the fair reveals that about 210,000 animals such as camels, bullocks and horses are usually traded. The animals brought to the fair are properly spruced up making them all set for the extravaganza. Other activities include exciting sports and competitions like tug of war, camel races, bullock races, cock fighting, etc. No great awards or medals are won. The participants do it more to ascertain their valor. The entire ambience overflows with applauds, clapping and shouts from the audience. Traditional dance and folk music performances further enhance the spirit of the grandiose carnival. The local populace including several traders, artisans, entertainers, adults, children, and young people actively participate in the Nagaur Fair.
